~ About ~
The Cavens Arms is a traditional pub serving great food and drinks in the heart of Dumfries town centre. First opened in 2003 by Gary and Faye Jeffries, we set out with a vision of selling great quality, homemade food and real ales in a friendly and welcoming town atmosphere.
You can find us next door to Barbour’s department store at the top of Buccleuch Street, between the High Street and Whitesands.
Our history
In 2010 we bought the building next door and took on the task of expanding the restaurant area for customers and relocating the kitchen to a larger space. We worked long and hard to preserve the Cavens familiar cosy and comfortable atmosphere that our customers know and love, whilst giving everyone a wee bit extra elbow room.
Whilst our menu has developed and grown considerably, good old fashioned ‘fish ‘n’ chips remains our best selling dish to this day.
Gary’s pride in his Real Ales is well known and Cavens offers up to 8 different ales sourced from throughout the UK. Since 2006 to present day, Cavens has consecutively been the proud winner of the CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) Dumfries Pub of the Year Award.
2020 and beyond
Following closure due to the coronavirus pandemic we are excited to introduce our new beer garden and beer barn. Which are both rain protected, heated and dog friendly.

You can also now order all your favourite classic Cavens dishes to eat at home using our take away service. Call us to order your take away on 01387 252896.
And of course now you can reserve your table online.
We look forward to welcoming you to Cavens Arms.
